Another successful week for the youths and juniors as the reports below from the length and breadth of the country...

National Junior Championships:

The Junior National Championship took place in Cooloney, Co. Sligo last weekend. Aaron Wade competed in both events (Time Trial and road Race) following his intense schedule in Mallorca, demonstrating his commitment and enthusiasm for the sport. Conor T. Farrell competed in the Road Race and achieved an excellent 14th place overall and was the 3rd placed first year Junior. This was a great performance by Conor and with the Junior Tour of Ireland coming up it shows his form is just right.

Aaron was back on the track on Saturday last and earned a bronze medal in the Dublin International Track Cycling event in Sundrive while Caoimhe O’Brien took a fine 3rd place in Co.Tipperary.

Moynalty Grand Prix:

Eight youths travelled to Mullagh on Sunday to take part in the Moynalty Grand Prix. Aoife O’Brien took first place in her category which was another fantastic result for her on top of a 1st in the Women’s League recently. Tommy Hogan rode an excellent race to claim his first top ten placing finishing 9th in the U16 race. In the U14’s Mikey “The Pocket Rocket” Flaherty finished in 7th which was a good result for him as he negotiates his first year in the peloton. Despite other riders experiencing a few mechanicals and crashes this was a successful day out for the young Wheelers who continue to represent the club so well every weekend, chapeau to you all.

Junior Tour of Ireland:

Next Tuesday marks an important milestone for the club with the entry of a Lakeside Wheelers team in the 2018 Junior Tour of Ireland. This is a six-day race held in and around Ennis, Co. Clare with stages tackling the famous Corkscrew and Cliffs of Moher climbs.

The club will be represented by Aaron Wade, Conor T. Farrell and John Boyne with the final two slots being filled by two guest riders Christopher Devine from Ratoath and David O’Sullivan from Sportsroom Cycling Team. The team managers are Camillus Farrell and Philip Wade who are both very experienced at this level of racing and will undoubtedly do a great job with the lads. On behalf of all members, best of luck to you all and we will be keeping an eye out for you during the week. Best wishes to former Lakeside Wheelers member, Sean Kennedy who is competing in Clare also.
