Our more senior racers were in action in the Visit Nenagh Classic races which are, as the name suggests, staged in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. Lakeside Wheelers was represented by Aidan Gorry who was happy to finish a tough A4 race whilst his daughter Nicole and Asia Bula were well up in the women's race finishing in the top 20. Former Wheeler Sean Kennedy (NRPT) also claimed a top 20 in the A3 race which is another good result for him as a first year Junior.

In the main event for the A1/A2 and A+ riders honorary club-man and member of the An Post Chainreaction Seán Kelly Team, Damien Shaw, was making his first appearance of 2017 following a period of rehab from an injury he sustained in training earlier this year. This race was over 169kms and must be well up in the rankings as the most difficult race in Ireland. Featuring five climbs on some very rough terrain it really is a true test and an ideal warm-up for the Ras in May. Shaw settled back very well, finishing in the chase group to a solo breakaway and is now on his way to Spain for training before his next race in France in two weeks. Also competing in this event were former Wheelers Eoin Lynch and Stuart Cox of the Planet X Team.
