On the 17th February Lakeside Wheelers had a team of 4 competing in the Ned Flanagan Memorial race in Monasterevin. It was a handicapped race consisting of A4's with a 3 minute gap to the A3's and then a 3 minute gap to the A1/A2 riders. We were represented in A4 by Moss Keane, Matt Burke, Mickey Dan Murtagh and Brian Collentine. There was a huge field of 228 riders signed on across all categories. With High winds to contend with the lads lined up with the 70 strong A4 bunch for the testing 70km circuit. From the drop of the flag the pace was high but the Wheelers kept themselves towards the front of the bunch and in the thick of the action.

There was a few that attempted breaks but none stuck and the bunch was all back together at Stradbally for the major climb of the Day which had to be tackled into a strong headwind. It was at 40km that the A3's made contact and the attacks started again with speeds hitting 60kmhr with the strong tailwind.

The A1/A2 bunch worked very well together and managed to make contact with 20km still remaining. There was a crash with 5km to go which our lads were caught up in but thankfully there was no injuries. All Wheelers acquitted themselves very well and showed some great early season form.
