The latest round of the Midland League was hosted by Lakeside Wheelers last Thursday evening held on the popular Dalystown/Castletown circuit. The weather was absolutely for bike racing so there was a big attendance from across all the competing clubs. Unfortunately most of the Lakeside Wheelers guys were playing their part as marshals which is a rule of the competition so, local interest was at a minimum. However there was a couple of Wheelers who had played their marshal card in earlier rounds and made it to the start line. The club also had a few of the up and coming junior stars such as Tommy Hogan, Cathal Woods and Youth Olympics bound Aoife O’Brien. Racing was competitive as usual however there were no local riders in the shake up. Well done to all riders and to the members of Lakeside Wheelers for putting on a very good racing programme once again.

The last few weeks saw members John Boyne and Conor T. Farrell put in some great performances around the country. John took a fine 8 th place in the recent Manzer ThackaberryCup while Conor finished well up the rankings in both the Orwell 2 Day and the Red Hand Trophy in Northern Ireland where conditions were really testing.

In recent weeks the MiL has been very busy with races held every week in the various host club venues. The first Lakeside Wheelers promoted event of 2019 was staged on the Dalystown circuit two weeks ago in good weather conditions. The racing was of good quality in all three races. The A/B event produced a local winner in Richie Lenihan who timed his uphill sprint to perfection to come over the line ahead of the bunch. Well done Richie.

Last week’s race was staged in Legan, Co. Longford and yet again the Lakeside Wheelers colours were flying on the podium as P.J. Carey took the honours in the C race. This was a great achievement for P.J who has steadily been improving over the last couple of years so congratulations “young” man.

The next Lakeside Wheelers MiL is on July 4th so please contact Steve Franzoni if you are available to help out with marshalling.

The Bank Holiday weekend saw some Lakeside Wheelers members taking part in the Orwell Wheelers 2 Day in Dublin. Conor T. Farrell and Ian Lambden donned the yellow, red and blue to represent the club in this annual race while former Lakeside Wheeler, Aaron Wade now riding with Vitus-Chill.ie NRPT was also on the start line.
