Lakeside Wheelers Blooming

On a Sunday sunny morning while the rest of us welcomed Michael D Higgins our president to open the Fleadh which has come home to Mullingar much like soccer has come home to England curtesy of the ladies, 9 hardy B cyclists took the annual pilgrimage to the Slieve Bloom mountains in Offaly. Having set up base camp in Kinnity the group started their climbing expedition up the Cut a nice 5 kms drag to warm up the legs and the lungs. Having descended the Cut at breakneck speed in the light air they then tackled the steeper Wolftrap climb before parachuting back into Kinnity for a well earned cut of cha. Fed and watered they then tackled the route in reverse order. Finishing with 92kms on the clock and 1300 metres climbing this group are well set to conquer the Pat Colgan in a months time over similar terrain.

Lakeside Wheelers Mountain Biking

Richie Lenihan LSW and Steven Franzoni of OE Bikes and LSW showed very well in a recent mountain bike event in Mullaghmeen an isolated area of forest rising above the farm land of north Westmeath. Mullaghmeen Forest is the largest planted beech forest in Ireland. Along with beech, within its 400 hectares of forest it also has Sitka spruce, Scots pine and Noble fir and a very interesting native tree collection. The summit of Mullaghmeen provides magnificent views north across Lough Sheelin and into the neighbouring county of Cavan. Well done lads.
