The main activity last week was at the Seán Nolan Grand Prix in Navan to which nine youths and one Junior travelled to participate.

The youths had a very good morning of racing with Aoife and Caoimhe O’Brien achieving podium finishes. The boys were all involved in the bunch finishes and especially well done to two beginners, Cathal and Ruarí Woods who managed to stay in touch with the front group throughout the race.

Later on Conor T. Farrell took to the road in the A3/Junior race. After 115kms he finished in the main bunch in about 20th place. Conor stepped up his performance last week with a spectacular win in the A/B division of the Midland League. Conor attacked the bunch as they turned in Kilbeggan and rode solo to the finish near Horseleap. Well done Conor, great win and good timing with some very important races coming down the tracks in the next few weeks your form is definitely moving in the right direction.

On Thursday seven youths participated in a bike fit at the club house. All were pleased with the bike fit which should lead an improvement in their cycling in the coming months not to mention a more comfortable position on the bike.

The Juniors are presently preparing for the National Championship at the end of June and the Junior Tour of Ireland in mid-July. For the first time in the club’s history Lakeside Wheelers will have a team in the Junior Tour this year so all support for the lads will be greatly appreciated.

The Youths preparation is now focused on the Mullingar Grand Prix which is scheduled for July 15th and the Tour of Errigal at the beginning of August. These events will be closely followed by the National Championship towards the end of August so there is n o let up for the younger members who are involved in the racing scene.
