Plenty of action over the past few days on the racing front with Lakeside Wheelers well represented in the Midland and Clonard Summer Leagues as well as further afield in Kilkenny at the Deenside Cup. Here's a round-up of the races...

Midland League Round Two

The second round of the Midland League was hosted by Wolftrap Cycling Club in Fivealley, Birr last Thursday evening.

This proved to be a successful race for the LSW participants with Aoife O’Brien winning the C/D race. This was Aoife’s first victory in this exciting league and no doubt she will feature again as the year goes on. Two other MiL novices, David Lally and Lorcan Caffrey, were both well placed finishing in 4th and 7th positions respectively.

In the A/B race Mossie Keane got up for 5th in the sprint for the line which was a good result for him in good company. Hot on his heels were Aidan Gorry in 7th position with Ian Lambden and John Donoghue finishing 9th and 10th.

Clonard League

On the same evening, our neighbours in Clonard Cycling Club hosted a round of their summer league with sign-on based at Mary Lynch’s pub in Coralstown. This race was run off over a nice circuit from Coralstown to Killucan and back to Coralstown via the N4. Brendan (Tosh) Kiernan was on good form at this event and managed to claim 2nd place in what proved to be a very hotly contested finishing sprint.

Deenside Cup (Kilkenny):

Last Sunday eight Wheelers travelled to Castlecomer, Co, Kilkenny for the Deenside Cup. In the Ladies race Nicole Gorry finished well up in the placings getting a fine 6th position whilst Asia Bula came home in 10th place.

Ian Lambden and Mossie Keane were in the thick of the A4 action and after some hard racing Ian managed to get into the main break of the day which contained 15 riders. This group stayed away for the duration and Ian did extremely well to last the pace coming home in 11th place. Mossie held his own in the bunch and rolled in safely. In the A3 race Richie Lenihan, Alan Connolly and John Boyne all rode very well but didn’t make the podium this week.

Well done to all Wheelers who competed at these races.
