Following on from his exploits in Kanturk, Aaron Wade went to Mondello Park on Tuesday evening and without a shadow of doubt, he gave his best display to date against senior riders.

The young 16 year old showed no adverse effects from his hard weekend in Cork starting the race with the A3 group. When this contingent was caught by the three riders from the scratch group, the Mullingar man slotted in with them and more than held his own.

He was now in some very strong company with Holdsworth Pro Cycling rider Dermot Trulock and Mark Dowling, a former National Criterium champion, both full time riders, to keep him honest. However, it was the Lakeside Wheelers teenager who would claim the spoils as he just held enough in reserve to outsprint Dowling on the line.

Having put in some excellent performances already this season this was Aaron’s first outright victory and one which will surely put him in the spotlight for future National selections. Well done Aaron.

Aaron Wade wins the sprint in Mondello Park by the narrowest of margins.
