Cyclocross Kicks into High Gear

This weekend winter cycling cross country kicked into gear for Lakeside Wheelers both young and not so young. The action moved to Drewstown House just outside Clonmellon where it was the turn of Oldcastle Cycling Club to run round one of the Leinster Cyclocross league. The club was represented by Sebastian Tyrrell, Ruari and Katie Horohoe in the U 10 race and later by Daniel Horohoe in the U 14 event. All did very well and finished strongly mid pack. No doubt they will learn from their experience on the tough circuit that is Drewstown.

Later on Peter Rimmer togged out in the club colours in the senior B race. Having already completed a number of longer gravel type events both here and in the UK, this was no bother at all to him. Unlucky to miss out on the podium places, we will no doubt see more from Peter in the coming weeks.

Onto the senior men’s A race where the club had a good representation of youth and experience. The youthful side coming from Dylan Franzoni who is still in a junior rider and who was fronting up to compete with some of Ireland‘s best talent. Richie Lenehan is the more experienced of this duo and both riders set off strongly from the start. Podium places were missed out on but both lads are showing some great early-season form.

Well done everybody today and maybe we will get more riders out to Cyclocross races around the area this Autumn and Winter.
