On Saturday 24th August Aaron Wade travelled to Enniscorthy Co. Wexford to take part in The National Youth Championships. Aaron was competing in the U12 boy’s category. The first test was Saturday morning with a 5.15km time trial. Aaron posted a very creditable time of 9.47 which left him 11th overall and just 16 seconds off the winning time.

In the afternoon Aaron lined up in the bunch for the road race. A very hilly 13.8km circuit awaited all the riders. From the off the pace was fast with Aaron staying in the thick of the action. However he lost touch with the breakaway bunch on a stiff climb about 4km from the finish and came in with the chasing riders. On Sunday morning a criterium in the town was the order of the day. A 1.3km circuit to be completed 7 times awaited all riders. Again Aaron acquitted himself very well finishing in the chasing group which was just 500 meters behind the winning breakaway.

The weekend overall was a great result for Aaron as it was his second only road race and 1st criterium ever to compete in. Aaron also competed during the year in the Under 12 Autumn track league series at Sundrive Road in south Dublin. This involved getting points for scratch, TT and sprint races over an 8 week period. I am pleased to report that Aaron won Gold. Well done Aaron and no doubt one to look out for in the future.
