The Youth and Junior teams went down south over the May Bank Holiday weekend to compete at the Kanturk 3-Day festival of racing. All our riders had a good weekend gaining high placings and finishing well up in the main bunch at the end of each stage. Young Mikey Flaherty had two 14th places and was unfortunate to crash on the last stage. Aoife O’Brien matched the boys all the way and claimed top girls prize while big sister Caoimhe claimed a podium place in her category. One of our up and coming members, Leo Gunning rode really strong all weekend and finished with the main bunch on each stage.

In the Juniors, Aaron Wade and Conor T. Farrell competed in the A2/A3 races. After four tough stages Aaron claimed 4th, 5th and two 8th placings which were good enough to see him finish top unplaced Junior and 11th overall on GC. Conor T. continued his recent good form racing very well all weekend. He managed to finish 24th on GC in a field of about 100 top class riders and no doubt his development will keep going in the right direction.

Back at base, the youths who did not travel had a road spin on Saturday with TT practice on Sunday. On Monday they participated in escorting the Cycle against Suicide cyclists from Ballinacarrigy to Mullingar so they were definitely not idling while their clubmates were away.

The club is hosting the Leinster Youths TT Championships on 19th May and planning for this big day is well under way.
