It was a busy weekend for the Wheelers with open races in Stamullen and a Triathalon in Carrick on Shannon.

On Saturday 12th April Conor Canton competed in the Pat and Monie Memorial race in Balscadden in the U16 Category. Conor rode well and managed to get 6th overall.

On Sunday 13th April a team of 8 headed to Gormanstown College for Sign on for the Stamullen GP. We were represented in A1 by Stewie Cox, in A3 by myself and Richie Lenehan and in A4 by Aidan Daly, Eoghan Kevlihan, Graham Morgan, Matt Burke and Roy Carey. The race was on a tough 18km circuit with the infamous 2km Pilltown climb to be tackled, with the A1/A2's completing 6 laps, A3's 4laps and A4's 3 laps. All riders acquitted themselves very well on the challenging circuit. The best result on the day however was Roy Carey taking 8th in the A4 category in the bunch sprint. These are Roy's first points towards his A3 upgrade. Eoin Lynch now riding with the DID Dunboyne team managed to get 6th in the A3 race.

Eric Smith travelled to Carrick on Shannon to compete in the Lough Key Triathlon. This event consisted of a 300m swim, 16km bike section and 4km run. Eric put in a great swim section, a strong bike ride and run to finish 2nd overall and just 10 secs off the winner. Well done all.

Rás Na Nóg Stage Race

On Saturday 5th April Aaron Wade along with David and John Boyne headed to Drogheda to compete in the Rás Na Nóg 2 Day. This is the first youth stage race of the season. The first stage was over a 3km lap and stage 2 was over a 7km lap with each age group doing a different amount of laps. Aaron and John did very well to finish in the bunch on stage 1 and 2 in the U14 category. David Boyne was competing in the U16 category and lined up for 10 laps of the 3km challenging circuit. David stayed in contention throughout stage 1 and was rewarded with 6th place in the bunch sprint. Stage 2 in the afternoon was on a 7km lap with the U16's completing 6 laps. David was unfortunate to be brought down in a crash after 2 laps which left him out of action for the remainder of the weekend. Stage 3 on Day 2 was the toughest with Aaron again riding aggressively in the U14's to finish in the bunch. The lads report that the event was run very well despite David's misfortune. Well done lads it's great to see the club represented at this event.
