The first weekend in March is a key date in the cycling Ireland calendar for our neighbouring club Clonard CC as their annual Rás Naoimh Finián is held on the out and back course from Mother Hubbard's to Kilbeggan and back to the finish line in Clonard.

It is also a key date for many of our racing team as this usually kick-starts the racing season for many of them. None more so than our latest prodigy Nicole Gorry who was making her road season debut in the women's race. Nicole rode an excellent race from start to finish which culminated in her coming home first in a hotly contested event. Nicole is a very strong cyclist and is going from strength to strength on both the road and on the track for Ireland under the excellent tutelage of coach and mentor fellow club man Steve Franzoni.

In the men’s races we had a strong team taking part in both the A3/Junior and A4 races. All riders rode well in terrible conditions (this race and bad weather seem to go hand in hand, I remember being caught in a snow storm during this race a few years ago!) and throwing Gneevebawn from both sides into the mix they all acquitted themselves excellently.

A big congrats to Alan Connally who took 6th place in the A3/Junior race & also to John Boyne who was taking part in his first A3/Junior race who looked well at home and spent most of the race in the top twenty who claimed 4th unplaced junior. Keep a close eye on Johns progression, he certainly has the talent to go places and is a classy rider!

Well done to all who raced over the weekend and best of luck for the coming season.

Nicole Gorry, winner of the Women's Race in Rás Naomh Finian.
