Winter Storms Needn't Stop the Fun

With storm “Clodagh” being the third storm to pass through these parts in almost as many weeks, the bad weather has resulted in a distinct shortage of cyclists out for the weekly spins. There is no doubt that these storms are becoming more frequent and with self-preservation in mind, another few hours in the bed can often be the sensible option.

That is not to say that training has to be cancelled altogether, as there is always the trusty Turbo Trainer. For those of you who may not have any experience of these “tools of torture”, a Turbo Trainer is a gadget into which you slot the rear wheel of your bike, and then you are all set to pedal away to your heart’s content in the comfort of your own shed, kitchen or wherever your partner allows.

These trainers come equipped with resistance levers which means you can simulate hills or mountains if you are feeling fit. They can be a great friend to cyclists of all abilities in periods of prolonged bad weather but sessions are much more bearable with some decent “boom boom” music. For any partners of cyclists who may be struggling with the Santa decision, a Turbo can often be a handy pressie at “certain” times of the year.

Despite the fact that it is winter, here’s hoping the normal weekly spins get back on track soon.
