Cyclocross Race at Belvedere 20/11/2022

On Sunday last, Lakeside Wheelers were given the honour of hosting round five of the Leinster league of Cyclocross. This all-day event took place in the grounds of Belvedere House & Gardens. Because we only secured access to the grounds quite recently, there was a huge amount of work to get through in a short space of time in order to get ready for race day. Steven Franzoni took on the role as race director. Together with a small team of club members, the course was fashioned out of a grass and forested area at Belvedere’s grounds. This was nothing short of a massive club effort and what was achieved is an example of a club working together owards a specific goal. Testament to this was how well everything ran on race day and the positive feedback received. People who raced in different courses throughout the province and beyond were extremely complimentary of the course which Steven designed. There was racing for U6’s right up to U16’s with the Horohoe, Lally, Tyrrell, Alshawib & Van Beck clans all represented with quite a bit of medal metal distributed. Afterwards the juniors, senior women and men categories were run off without incident. The club had several representatives in these categories with Dylan Franzoni scoring the fist unplaced junior spot after going out very quickly from the off. Well done to everyone who raced. With the last of the racers leaving the grounds the LSW crew assembled once again to dismantle the extensive 2 KM+ course. This was a really enjoyable event to be involved in for the organisers, spectators and racers alike. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we get out to Belvedere in a club capacity for more CX fun.

AGM

Last Friday we held our AGM in the Greville Arms Hotel, Mullingar. Presentations were given by the officers of the club. Club secretary Ed Tyrrell gave a summary of the month by month minutes thereby giving an account of the main points covered off by the committee during the year. Then Ulrika Maher took us through the club's financial situation. In the absence of Seamus Clarke, Paul Gibney summarised the events which the club hosted in 2022. John Farrell covered the youth/junior scene within the club and finally Tosh Kiernan took us on a trip back in time aided by lots of Donie Kellegher's photos, recalling the races in which members competed during the year. There were no motions debated this year. The new committee for 2022/2023 was voted in. The new committee is:-
