(Sun. 2nd April 2017)

This week our Youths section were at Rás na nÓg which is one of the major stage races on the calendar for younger cyclists. Promoted by Drogheda Wheelers, this event was staged near Bellewstown in Co. Louth.

Saturday April 1st, saw the riders compete in two stages, a time trial in the morning followed by a road race in the afternoon then, on Sunday, Stage 3 was another road race.

Unfortunately for some of our riders the race on Saturday proved to be a sore affair with Aaron Wade coming down in a crash which left him with some nasty road rash and Caoimhe O’Brien also getting caught up in that accident. Not to be outdone, these young stars were determined not to let this put them off their game and both bravely finished the stage.

However, Aaron’s injuries took their toll and he was unable to start on Sunday whilst Caoimhe was forced to abandon half way through the final stage. The O’Brien clan did claim silverware though as Aoife rode exceptionally well to finish 1st girl in the U/14 race. Well done to all our youths and it is clear to see that they are developing with each race.
