The first weekend of the year and the cylco-cross season moves into its final few races. This weekend the cross fraternity split and went different directions. Five riders headed to the final of the Fixx Coffee House Series in Dublin and another group headed to the fastest town in Ireland - Tuam for some less serious action. Next weekend sees the National Championships takes place in Belfast so Sonja Stathem and Michelle O'Hallaran headed with Paul Crowley, Ritchie Lenehan and David Fagan to seek out the bigger field and more action in Dublin. I have no firm results yet but I hear top five for Michelle and top ten for Ritchie.

That left three of us heading wesht (West) to Tuam for a round of the Connaught Cross series. Myself (Steven Franzoni), young David Boyne and Stuart (Hernie) Cox took the soft option with only a small field of fifteen we had a tough race in very wet conditions much the same as the Dublin crew by all accounts. Given the small field we all managed to podium in our categories and even had to help design the course on arrival. The best part of the day was being able to use the swimming pool and sauna right next to the race, much appreciated after a cold hour of racing.
