Busy Weekend for Club Youths

Post date: Jan 27, 2015 2:40:55 PM

This weekend was a particularly busy weekend for the youth with a Turbo session in outdoor escape and then a training day in Bray with the Leinster development squad.

Saturday Session (By Ian Lambden Sat. 24th January)

Today a group of around 7 youths arrived at outdoor escape for the weekly turbo session led by David Fox and Phil, it was only a short and sweet session as youths were going to bray in the following morning and we wanted the legs to be fresh so all we did was Warm up time, six 1 minute efforts at 100-120 cadence and five 15 second sprints with a 45 second break following a warm down. All went very well with good efforts binge put in by every one. I would like to thank Phillip & David for the session we do and also thank outdoor escape for the use of their facilities. I would recommend that anyone over the age of 12 with a helmet and a road bike to give ago.

Leinster Youth Training Day (Sunday 25th January)

Today a convoy of cars left outdoor escape at 8 a.m. :-(tough on our poor teenagers ) to make their way to Bray for the Leinster Youth Training day. Great support from John Canton, Moss Keane and Camillius Farrell to haul all the bikes, gear and what appeared to be a lot of Lynx cans down there. The session went well with 3 groups leaving Bray club house , the U14's , U16's and Juniors for a 2 hour spin in some of the tough hills of Wicklow .

The intent of the day was to gather riders together in Leinster to talk about an up and coming Leinster Youth academy and that the Leinster management team were focusing on coaching for the youth in the near future and wanted to create teams for the larger events around the country like Ras Na Nog , the International Youth tour and of course none other than the Junior Tour of Ireland, with a greater vision of feeding the National youth academy pipeline led by Dan Curtain in Cork. The good news is that it was evident our guys (David Boyne, Conor Canton, Ian Lambden, Adam Dunne, Sean Kennedy, Conor Farrell, Naomi Wade , and Aaron Wade ) were not on the couch for the entire winter as they held in there and flew the flag amongst their peers and made us proud. I think there will be a lot of tired legs this evening ..

A special thanks to Moss Keane for heading out with the Juniors ( he took more brave pills than I ) and looking after our guys out there. Phil and Camillius did the support car for the U14's group which also had to be done, even if it was an easier job ;-) ...
