Club and Midland Leagues Starting in April

Post date: Mar 20, 2016 11:19:30 PM

The annual summer “race” league is getting a facelift for the 2016 season with some new and exciting options being added to encourage members of all levels to get involved. The steering group for this revamp was chaired by Derek Sheeran and after some brainstorming his crew came up with the following format.

The league will be staged over six events and will commence on April 29th with a Time Trial. This will be followed by a Road Race on May 27th, another Time Trial on June 24th, a Treasure Hunt on July 31st, a second Road Race on August 4th and the conclusion will be on August 28th with, an as yet unnamed event.

The format for this league has been under scrutiny for a few years now so it is great to see a new approach which will hopefully make it appealing for all members. There will be emails issued in advance of the league starting but please mark these dates in your diary to make sure you don’t miss out.

Midland League

The Midlands League is another annual event jointly hosted by Lakeside Wheelers, Shannonside, Longford, Birr and Portlaoise and this commences on April 21st with a Team Time Trial. This route normally runs from Kilbeggan to Moate and turns to finish at the old garden centre in Horseleap. There will be several dates to this league which will be emailed in due course and Lakeside Wheelers will stage two rounds of this excellent event on May 12th and July 7th at the Dalystown circuit.
