Last week’s training session was a two-and-a-half-hour spin with Mossy Keane. It was flat for most of the ride with a couple of small hills thrown in to keep us honest. We did efforts on these hillier sections to keep ourselves warm on what was a very cold and windy day. The spin was designed to be an easy 60km ride to give us a rest after three hard weeks of training.

On Tuesday we had our weekly Wattbike training session with our coach, Damien Shaw. This session was designed to increase our sprint power. The intensity of the sprints decreased in time over the session but increased in power finishing off with five efforts as hard as we could go.

On Wednesday we had our monthly Wattbike test which incorporated two 6 second efforts and a three-minute effort. This test shows how powerful our sprint is and how many watts we can put out for every kg we weigh. This also helps the coaches to see how strong we are and help us improve in areas we are not so good in.

On Thursday we were in NGS for our strength and conditioning session with Shane Flynn and his team who put us through our paces with a full body workout.

To conclude the week, Damien took us out on a nice hilly route near Killucan for a two-and-a-half-hour spin on Saturday morning. This session incorporated a few team time trials and one solo time trial. We were split up into different groups with two people chasing the main group to try and mimic a real race scenario.

Thanks to Damien and all our other coaches and already we are looking forward to the training sessions next week.
