Over the last few weeks Lakeside Wheelers members made a big impression at the end of season sportives in the locality. With the evenings drawing in and the bulk of the summer events now behind us, there was a good turnout at events such as the Pat Colgan in Tullamore, the Clonard CC spin and the tour of the Boyne.

Tullamore Cycling Club has been hosting the Pat Colgan Memorial for several years and the annual trip across the Slieve Bloom Mountains is always a favourite with both the competitive and leisure members of Lakeside Wheelers. In recent years the event has added an extreme 4-Peaks challenge to the day which incorporates ascents of the Cut, Wolftrap, Glendine and back over the Cut again. This is proving to be very popular and attracted a big group of Wheelers.

Another local spin is the Clonard Cycling Club annual day out which this year was commemorating the club’s 10th anniversary. As it happened, this year the organisers choose a route which saw the riders travel roads very well known to the Wheelers participating. The spin left Clonard and headed to Kinnegad, Killucan, Cloughan, Crookedwood and Multy before doing a loop of Ballinagall and returning along the same roads again. The weather was perfect and a good day was had by all.

Lastly, there was another group of Wheelers who went to Co. Meath to ride the Tour of the Boyne which was another enjoyable spin.
