The 2019 racing season is just weeks old yet one of the biggest events of the year was staged in Carlow last Sunday with the famous Des Hanlon cup up for grabs. Lakeside Wheelers was represented in all the men’s races with Stuart Cox competing in the A1/2’s, John Boyne, Conor T. Farrell and Ian Lambden in the A3’s while Aidan Daly and Andy Richmond raced the A4 competition. This race is renowned for being one of the most difficult races on the calendar due to the extremely hilly profile so, it was no wonder that some of our lads struggled but most importantly, they competed and came home safely. Some former Lakeside Wheelers riders were also competing with Aaron Wade (NRPT) riding a great race to claim the spoils in the A3 race while Damien Shaw (Strata 3 Velo Revolution) rode steadily in the A1 race coming home in the chase group behind the eventual winner who crossed the line solo.
