Another Productive Weekend for Underage Riders

Last weekend it appears the adults took a break from racing but the Youths took up the slack and more than made up for the “Big People”.

Stamullen was the venue for two days of racing and as the majority of the juniors went out on the normal Saturday morning spin, four Wheelers went to the North Co Dublin circuit. Damien O’Brien, Noel Kennedy and Joe Duffy shared the Director Sportiv duties as the club was represented by Naomi Wade, Aoife O’Brien, Caoimhe O’Brien and Sean Kennedy. Unfortunately both Naomi and Sean had to retire due to injury but once again the O’Brien girls rode amazingly well and took home the silverware. In the U12 race Aoife was first girl home finishing 3rd overall with big sister Caoimhe also taking 1st girl in the U14 race after a fine 5th overall.

Then, on Sunday the team were back in action again at the same venue and by all accounts the girls did the double bringing home more trophies in their respective age groups. Well done to everybody on what was a very successful few days for young Wheelers.

This all augurs very well for next weekend when the club will be sending a very strong team to Ras na n’Og in Drogheda. This is the biggest weekend of racing on the youth calendar and will, for the first time in many years see Wheelers with a full four man team in the boys U14 event. Best of luck to all the Wheelers Youth team in this big event and there will be a full report in next week’s notes.

Damien and Aoife O'Brien discuss tactics before the off.
