D Group Saturday 28th August 2021

The summer holidays must be over with the vast majority of the D group. A large group assembled at O'Briens for the weekly cycle. It was overcast but the forecast was for sunshine later in the morning.

The group headed onto the Delvin Road and it was not long before we were headed towards Cloughan. With the new road now open to Delvin with a decent hard shoulder it was no long before Caddagh Cross was reached. From here it was cross country to Raharney. For some of the group the next section of road was totally un-familiar as we headed on the back roads towards Croboy and The Hill of Down. Once we reached the Trim road it was plain cycling to Kinnegad.

The Plazza beckoned for the customary tea stop. They have a lovely sheltered outdoor area and it was lovely to sit and enjoy the fine weather and a nice cup of tea. Some of the group ventured to have a "jumbo breakfast roll" Needless to say they suffered on the way home.

From here the group headed down the old road to Coralstown and home to base. A very credible 64km on the clock.

Next Wednesday will be our last midweek spin. It is intended to depart from O' Briens at 6.00 p.m. A detour to Castletown has been suggested with a tea break in Drake's. All will be revealed on the night. Notes by Gerry Wallace.
