Pierce, The King of Gneevebawn

Saturday 7th March and all roads led to Clonard for the Rás Naomh Finian. This yearly event is always well supported by the Wheelers. The A4 group was well represented with 12 A4 riders with a lot of lads getting there first run out of the year. As seems to be the case every year the standard goes up, the pace gets faster but there is one constant -the wind. A weather warning was in place and strong winds made life difficult on the way out for most people except Barry Pierce who was proclaimed king of Gneevebawn.

Shortly after we turned in Kilbeggan, with the wind on our backs the pace increased significantly. It was survival of the fittest as people fell out the back of the peloton, We seemed to be back in Clonard in a flash, With Barry and Alan Whelan just missing out in the placings after a sprint finish. A superb, well organised event with everybody getting back safely to ride another day. Next weekend the A4's will be again making their way to the Royal County for the Boyne GP.

Thanks to Joe Duffy, there's a nice set of pictures from Saturday's race. Click here to view.
