For the first time in the club’s history, Lakeside Wheelers had a team in the Eurocycles Eurobaby Junior Tour of Ireland. This six-day international race based in Ennis, Co. Clare attracts teams from the USA, South Africa, Holland, Great Britain as well as all the best teams in Ireland which leaves the field packed with talent.

The Lakeside Wheelers team consisted of Conor T. Farrell, Aaron Wade, John Boyne, Christopher Devine who guested from Rathoath CC and David O’Sullivan who guested from Sportsroom Racing Team. The lads were managed by Camillus Farrell and Philip Wade who ensured that all the background activities associated with running a cycling team went smoothly.

The week’s racing has a HQ in the town of Ennis with racing taking place around the West Clare region. The Lakeside Wheelers lads enjoyed mixed fortunes with Conor Farrell finishing a very creditable 25th overall, just 1min 30secs off the winner and 6th leading Irish rider. John Boyne and David O’Sullivan rode well throughout the week and finished the final stage on Sunday. Aaron Wade withdrew with a stomach bug during Sunday’s final stage while Christopher Devine withdrew on Thursday with an illness. Best wishes to both of these young athletes and a big “Get Well Soon” from all at Lakeside Wheelers.

Former Lakeside Wheelers rider Sean Kennedy of NRPT had an excellent tour with a fine 7th placing on Stage 5 however, he reserved his best performance for the Queen’s Stage (most difficult) on Saturday when he finished 3rd.
