Notes 27/02/2022

The C Group, led out by their erstwhile leaders Ulrika and Pat (some members of which are pictured above enjoying a well-earned tea break) ventured out on a windy Saturday morning on the N4 towards Delvin. At Cloghan they headed east cross country on an undulating road towards Killucan. From Killucan they spun past Nanny Quinn’s on their way to the tea stop at the new Kinnegad Plaza. From Kinnegad they pushed on towards Tyrrellspass and back into Mullingar via Dalystown. A very worthwhile 72 kms on the clock in windy conditions.

The regular Saturday D group (pictured above) decided on a change of direction this weekend. Under the expert care and guidance of Seamus & Richie Clarke a group of 16 took to the road and headed to Kinnity Castle led out by yours truly Gerry Wallace. Mountain bikes had been pre-booked and Mid Ireland Adventure were on hand to supply everyone with a suitable bike. After a very thorough safety briefing Seamus and Ritchie led the group into the unknown and the so called easy blue trail. I would hate to see the hard route. From the onset it was into steep climbing and twisting trails. The first casualty was yours truly - after a dose of flu I opted for the "baby" trail and was content to have a flat route to contend with. Great credit to the remaining group - they stuck at the climbs and were rewarded with some spectacular scenery and trails. When all arrived back safely at the car park the general consensus was the event was most enjoyable. Mountain biking has to be taken in a completely different manner and approach. The bikes are heavier and more robust for the terrain Well done to all involved.
