One of the most popular Sportives in recent years is the Leinster Loop which is a charity event based in Co. Kildare. Last Sunday a sizable group of Lakeside Wheelers members participated in this event which is reported on by Mark Monaghan in the following piece...

A large group of Lakeside Wheelers members at the Leinster Loop.

"On a day made for cycling all roads led to the town of Athy and in particular, St. Laurences GAA club where Lakeside Wheelers had a contingent of at least forty members decked out in the yellow, blue and red for the annual Leinster Loop. This event is run over two distances of 100kms and 145kms with the club very well represented in both categories.

To say the route was testing would be an understatement, from the get-go there was plenty of climbing taking in some of the hard climbs commonly used during the annual Des Hanlon race.

I have to say that this was one of the best events I've had the pleasure of taking part in. It was expertly run with great signage and plenty of marshals at all junctions. Well done to all who took part and for supporting the NBCRI and various other charities which this sportive is in aid of.

Well done to all who took part, I hope you enjoyed it. I know I certainly did in that weird sort of way only we cyclists understand!"
