Moynalty GP A4 Road Race

4 Lakeside Wheelers, David Lally, Seamus Killian, Mike Cafferkey and Paul Murtagh headed for the picturesque village of Moynalty on Sunday morning last for the A4 race which was 7 laps of a 8km circuit over a sometimes tight circuit. The race headed off around 10.30am before the forecasted rain with some riders falling off the fast paced bunch after the second lap. On the third lap, just after a tight bridge/chicane there was a crash, Seamus came off his bike and Paul was held up in the aftermath, Mike and David got back onto the main bunch as they headed off into the distance. Seamus and Paul joined forces with 3 other cyclists and tried in vain to catch the leaders but it was a bridge too far. The two remaining Wheelers stayed with the main bunch all the way to the finish line with Mike finishing just outside the top 10 and David close behind as the rain pelted down on participants and spectators alike. This is a tough circuit so special mention to Mike as this was his first A4 open road race and a very impressive debut indeed. Well done to the 4 lads. Notes by Paul Murtagh.
