Saturday Morning Group Update

Some of our regular "mammies" had baby sitters last weekend and had warned Tom and myself that Friday night was quality time however, it was great to see six of our regulars turning up for the weekly regulated spin. Tom Carolan decided that we would take the spin north of the county for a change so as we departed the Barracks it was onward to Curraghmore where it became clear that he wanted the group to enjoy the back roads of the Downs. The group became very anxious when they realised that they had no clue where they were and this increased when mobile phone coverage was lost! As the bunch headed for Rathwire and Kinnegad word spread that Grainne’s was to be this week’s coffee stop for some much needed sustenance.

Following this very welcome break Tom took the lead and it was onward to Mullingar via Coralstown where he threw us a curve-ball and diverted to the Russellstown road. The group took the challenge in their stride and before long Mullingar and the Barracks beckoned.

Well done to everyone, especially our new members who are progressing very well - four weeks ago the thought of 30 km would have been a nightmare - now the only nightmare is the thought of yours truly barking out orders from the rear so keep up the good work.

Next Sunday one of our regular members has organised a charity cycle in Collinstown so if you have a few hours to spare I look forward to seeing you all there.

As usual our regular group will assemble at the barracks on Saturday morning at 9am. There is talk that a bike maintenance night will be arranged in the near future so stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks. Wouldn't it be lovely if one of our ladies volunteered to fix my puncture for a change, only joking !
