Lakeside Wheelers serve up a MIL race to remember.

Last Thursday it was the clubs turn to host the fourth round of the MIL. Recently appointed organiser, Brendan ‘Tosh’ Kiernan called on members to lend a hand at running and marshalling the event. There were lots of club members assembled at Wallace’s pub in Dalystown at 6.30. Signs, sweeping brushes and radios were distributed and folks headed for their various marshalling points. With the races getting underway at 7 o’clock it wasn’t long before riders in the A, B and C groups were hammering around the 15.6 Km circuit. With lead cars for every race and with every intersection and junction well marshalled, the race progressed smoothly.

The A race was very hotly contested with one Wheeler making it into the top ten places on the night. We had better luck in the B & C races with the top three places in both occupied by Wheelers and five places in all out of the top ten.

But it was the ‘after party’ which really set this race apart from any other this year. Credit to the organisers Ulrika Maher and friends for organising top-notch sandwiches, pizza, treats and as much tea/coffee as you wished. Together with the lovely evening and heaps of space and picnic benches at Wallaces it all made for a really enjoyable social occasion where racers and their families could mix and get to know each other a little. Well done to all involved.
