Weekend Group Cycles

(Sunday 13th March 2016)

Last Sunday the Wheelers were once again greeted by a lovely dry and mostly calm morning so there was a large gathering for the weekly cycles. The A Group headed to Ballymahon and had the usual gallop to the coffee stop in Glasson. Once refueled there was a slight lull in proceedings before the climb up to Mount Temple after which the pace gradually increased until the group reached Moate.

With the relatively quiet N6 to play with it was a constant effort trying to reel in the breakaways before the “elastic” eventually snapped. Up to this point there was a good training line-out in place with everybody doing their bit to keep the chainring moving smoothly.

The B Group took a slightly different route heading east to Kinnegad with a stop in Edenderry for the coffee before returning to base via Rhode, Rochfortbridge and Tyrellspass. All were very happy with the fine weather and the very good trip which added a good 95kms to the legs in preparation for the sportive season.

For some, the sportives got underway early as there was a large contingent of Wheelers in Westport for the early season Gran Fondo last Saturday.
