A Group Notes:-

High temperatures and blue skies more akin to cycling in the Mediterranean once again greeted members of Lakeside Wheelers for our regular Sunday spin. Newly appointed group leader, Paul Murtagh, put together a pretty difficult route which had us cycling a relatively hilly course for the entire 107 Km. This week we had enough cyclists out for two groups and we headed off separately. We were supposed to meet at the Coffee stop in Mountnugent, however something must have gone awry with the lead groups directions as they flew past as we came to a T junction trying to quickly correct for a ‘navigational issue’!

So after arriving at the coffee stop with the temperature at this stage in the mid 20s, the shade suitable trees was sought while water and carbs were taken onboard.

Back on our bikes for the final leg home and the more languid pace of the outward leg seemed to evaporate along with the chitchat as our pace went up considerably. The regular 2 x 2 group formation we had been holding until Crookedwood went out the door as tiredness took its toll and riders were really hanging on at this stage.

“So Did you have a nice cycle?” my daughter asked when I got home.

There is lots of different answers to that and all of them are positive. But suffice to say that any spin you finish safely with several hundred metres of climbing and over 100 Km is a good spin. Looking forward to the next one. Notes by Paul Gibney.
