Notes 16/01/2022

Mountain Biking and Cyclocross are close relatives to road cycling and other excellent ways to enjoy exercise and adventure on two wheels. The Club would like to thank young Dylan Franzoni for his participation in the 2022 National Cyclocross Championships in Armagh recently. Just before Christmas some members of the club headed to Oldcastle to take part in Oldcastle Cycling Club’s annual Adventure X event. This event allows cyclists to test their skills and endurance against all sorts of on and off-road terrain as the action shot below aptly demonstrates. It proved to be a great adrenalin rush for all who took part.

Last weekend some members of the club, with a few friends tagging along, headed to the Slievebloom mountains in Co Offaly to partake in some mountain biking. This too is a really exciting cycling sport with some excellent purpose built mountain bike trails now on offer in the Slieveblooms. Our picture below shows the group discussing their adventures after some great downhill sport. Further mountain bike trips will be organised in the near future so please keep a close eye on Lakeside Wheelers social media platforms if you don’t want to miss out

C & D Group Notes for Saturday 15/01/2022

Prior to departure, the club Chairman, arrived to make a surprise presentation to Gerry Wallace for services to the club. Pat Liddy, the group leader had posted a lovely manageable 50km route but on doing a head count it was agreed to split the groups into 2. Ulrika Maher took charge of the C group and headed to Moate. The two D groups, headed out of town and onto the Delvin road, which is very safe for cycling since the roadworks. At St. Tola's school the 2 groups converged and it was onto to Killucan. After a short spin down the back roads we all made it to Mullingar Pewter for a well-deserved coffee and scone. Well done to the excellent staff who looked after everyone in a quick and efficient manner. After the break it was onto the Downs and home to base.

Lakeside Wheelers announce another Introduction to Road Cycling Course

As in previous years the Club will be running an Adult Introduction to road cycling beginning on the 30th January 2022. Over a 6 week period we would hope to progress from "couch to 50km". If you would like to take part please contact Gerry Wallace 087 2557733 for further details. A road worthy bike and helmet is all you will need.
