Junior Tour:

This week sees the start of the Scott Bicycles Junior Tour which will be predominantly based in Co. Clare. Lakeside Wheelers will once again be represented at this blue riband event on the Junior calendar with John Boyne riding for a Cycling Leinster team.

This is a 6-day international race for under 18’s at which John and his teammates will go toe to toe with some of the best young riders from Ireland and across Europe. He will also line up against former Lakeside Wheelers club-man Sean Kennedy who now rides with the NRPT Titan Containers team.

The tour opens with a Time Trial on Tuesday evening and then follows up with 5 road stages with a conclusion next Sunday in Ennis. Best of luck to John and Sean from all at Lakeside Wheelers.

Midland League:

Last Thursday was Midland League night with Lakeside Wheelers hosting the club’s second round of this popular summer league. Numbers were slightly down on previous races but this was expected due to it being peak holiday season.

On a beautiful sunny evening the races took the usual format with the A/B’s doing three laps of the Dalystown, Castletown Ballinagore circuit whilst the C/D’s did two laps.

In the end it was the aforementioned Seán Kenedy (NRPT) who took the spoils from our own Aaron Wade who got up for 2nd place in the A/B race with Conor T Farrell not far back in 8th place. In the C/D race the evergreen Jack Nugent rode an excellent race to claim 2nd behind a Tullamore CC rider with Derek Sheerin a close third with youth rider, Tommy Hogan comfortable in the chasing bunch.
