Mickey Dan Seventh in Omagh 3-Day

Post date: Jul 30, 2012 9:10:9 PM

This was our first ever time having a team at this stage race. With three days and four stages of racing our team was made up of Mossy Keane, Aidan Daly, Mickey Dan Murtagh and Eoghan Kevlihan.

Stage one proved to be a seriously hard and fast 50km event with a very high standard in the bunch. The Sperrin mountains around Omagh were a serious eye opener for our lads proving to be very tough racing. Mickey Dan was best of our bunch with Aidan and Eoghan coming in 28 seconds down on GC.

Stage two was 75km of tough rolling hills with three king-of-the-hill primes. The weather conditions were very tough also. Eoghan and Micky Dan finished comfortably in the bunch and were sitting nicely in the GC overall.

The stage three time trial was a fast 4 km course and this is where Mickey Dan made his mark on the race, finishing in a very creditable fourth and fourth place on general classification going into the last stage. Mossy and Aidan performed really well on their TT also whilst Eoghan had mechanical problems.

Stage four - the queen stage of the race - finishing atop the 5km climb of Pigeon hill after 65km. Comparisons were made as to what was harder...Wolftrap or pigeon hill? It proved to be the make or break of the race and Mickey Dan again proved that he is becoming a real top class A4 racer. He finished 10th on the stage and took 7th position overall of 90 riders only 46 seconds down overall on GC.

The stage was a small lesson into what pro riders must face on a daily basis in the Alps! Pure hell really....but great fun! Well done to our team on a very tough competitive weekend and completing their first 4 stage race. A big thank you also to our support team of Billy 'de reccie' Cunnane and Brendan Kiernan, the boys were needed at vital stages on day 2.
