On Sunday 1st June Deenside Wheelers hosted their first open race in Castlecomer Co. Kilkenny. The club put on a very professional race with all riders complimenting the organisers. We had a team of 9 racing across all categories. A challenging 35km circuit with a 6km climb awaited all the riders, with each category doing a different amount of laps.

Aisling Flanagan, Michelle O'Halloran and Sonja O'Mahony were competing in round 4 of the Women's National League which was over 2 laps of the 35km circuit. They all put in a strong performance with Michelle 3rd and Sonja 5th in the sprint.

In The A3 race we were represented by Billy Cunnane and Tosh Kiernan. This race was over 3 laps of the 35km circuit. Both lads were in numerous breaks but they were all reeled in by the eager bunch. On the 6km climb for the last time both lads lost touch with the bunch and were unable to bridge the gap across for the sprint finish.

In the A4 race we were represented by Brendan Lynch, Matt Burke, Moss Keane and Roy Carey. There were numerous attacks in the bunch with Matt Burke getting into a break cresting the 6km climb on the last lap. In the sprint Matt got 5th and got his 4 points he required for his A3 upgrade. Thanks also to Paul Daly and Steven Franzoni who were on hand to do race support on the day.
