The Des Hanlon memorial is never an easy race but when you add in persistent rain and strong winds, it makes for very tough racing conditions as those who made the trip to Carlow today will testify. The youths squad acquitted them themselves well, however, and came away with the spoils to prove it. Their more senior club-mates

Following the highs and lows of last weekend, matters were a little quieter this weekend. However, we still managed to get in some racing as five riders headed to a wet and windy Carlow to take part in the underage races that proceed the first major one-day of the year - The Des Hanlon Classic. Some riders were planning to travel to the Seven Springs race event but it was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

Aaron broke away from the bunch and finished on his own in an excellent 2nd place. In the same race Caoimhe stayed with the boys for most of the race and finished 1st girl in under 16, again demonstrating how strong a rider she is. Aoife finished first girl and an excellent 6th in the Under 14 race. Conor (Mullingar) and Tommy Hogan also turned in strong performances on a tough course and conditions to match.

Senior & Junior Races

In the Senior and Junior races we had several riders across the Ladies, A4 and A3/Junior races. In very tough conditions and on a very hard hilly course, all of the Wheelers acquitted themselves well with John Boyne riding very well in a fast paced A3/Junior race and gaining some more valuable experience.

In the lady’s race Nicole Gorry took an impressive 10th place and first junior to keep her impressive start to the season going. In the A4 race Ian Lambden rode a fantastic race and was in the thick of the action throughout and claimed a very impressive 15th place in a peloton of over 200 riders. Well done Ian, it’s great to see all the hard work paying off.

Another impressive weekend of racing for our youth team.
