Lakeside Wheelers sent a strong youth squad to north Kilkenny on Saturday 21st May to take part in the 2016 Deenside Cup. As is now becoming the norm, they did not disappoint with strong performances across all categories.

Seán Kennedy takes victory in the Under 16 race in Deenside Cup.

Seán Kennedy, Aaron Wade and John Boyne represented Lakeside Wheelers in the Under 16 race. There was lots of action right from the gun with several attempted breakaways, some of which were initiated by Seán and Aaron but unfortunately none of them stuck. With about 500 metres to go, Aaron mae an early dash for the line but it proved to be a bit too early and he was swallowed up by the chasers. However, Seán got up a head of steam and powered to a fine sprint finish to claim top spot on the podium. Aaron ended in fifth position and John Boyne in ninth.

In the Under 14 race, Caoimhe O'Brien was again in fine form taking top spot in the girls' race while in the Under 12 event her sister Aoife was outright winner with Jamie Fuller fifth. Caoimhe and Aoife were in action again on Sunday in the Emyvale Cup in Monaghan and both once again won their categories.

Things are set to be quiet for a while with exam season looming. After that the focus will be on the Stephen Roche Criterium on 21st June and the Donegal three-day on August bank holiday weekend. Best of luck to all the youths team who are doing exams in the coming weeks.

Well done to the whole squad and to their coaching team on a hugely successful weekend'd racing. Fantastic results and great work being done in the Youths section of the club.
