The National Youth Championships staged in Ballymoney and Dunloy recently brought the curtain down on the 2018 Youth racing season. Whilst it has been a very tough few months for our young riders, it has also been an extremely enjoyable season with some outstanding performances.

In Ballymoney, Lakeside Wheelers had four competitors namely, Caoimhe O’Brien, Aoife O’Brien, Leo Gunning and Mikey Flaherty. This has to have been the toughest course of all the Nationals so far with hills, hills and more hills to contend with. The race program consisted of three races, a Time Trial, Road Race and Crit.

Aoife swept the boards in the Under 14 girl’s category winning all three gold medals on offer. Caoimhe was victorious in two of her races and took second place in her Time Trial.

Leo took part in the U/16 boys category and achieved a high placing in all the races. Mikey continues his steady progress and achieved a mid-teen placing in all his races,

Well done to all.
