This year we are delighted to report that seven of the Lakeside Wheelers youths team took to the west to take on the challenge for the National title of the road , Criterium and TT in Westport Co. Mayo this weekend. The Time Trial and the road race were on Saturday and the Criterium was around the streets of Westport on Sunday.

They joined 230 fantastic youth riders from all of the 32 counties to battle it out over the weekend. Each race in itself was a real test of ability and our youths flew the flag high. We had Naomi, Seán, Conor, Aaron, Caoimhe, Aoife and Jamie racing all three races and definitely giving it 100% whlile putting it up to their peers. While all our riders rode well and were in the mix, with some notable moments like Jamie Fuller making the Nationals TT his first ever race, me giving myself a headache screaming at Seán Kennedy as he pulled off the front of the Under 15 road race with 500 meters to the summit, to Conor leading out the main bunch on a couple of laps in the Criterium today, Caoimhe and Aoife definitely took the place by storm and brought home the spoils .

Aoife secured 3rd in the TT on Saturday morning, riding a terrific 8K TT in 15:04 (her Dad wishes he could do that) and then taking third in the Road race in the afternoon on a hilly course. Then the 2 girls showed their metal in the Criterium today where Aoife secured Second on a very testing course and Caomihe came third after crashing out into the safety hay bales and getting back in before we could even get down the road to see how she was.

Other great results were Jamie Fuller taking on the Nationals as his first racing experience as first year Under 12, Sean Taking 15th in the road race on a climb that would make Skeagh look flat, Conor Farrell taking 8th in the Criterium on a very aggressive race, Aaron taking 11th in the TT (@ 12:21) and Naomi taking 6th in the TT.

All our riders are in there, fighting hard and being very competitive. A great finale to the season for us all.

Thanks to Noel, Geraldine, Caroline, Diane, Damien, Jacinta , Jean, Camillus and Breda. These people actually make it all possible.
