Saturday C/D Group spin 5th June 2021

Assembly at O' Briens on Saturday led to four new faces. Welcome to Ger, Olivia, Norman and Matt. We had no need to worry about their fitness levels. I reckon they will be moving up to the C group very soon. It was also lovely to see Marie and Kevin making a welcome return.

It was overcast and due to the large numbers the D's split into two groups. First on the road was Tom Carolan with the assistance of Maurice Molloy. I was fortunate that Frank Morgan dusted down the bike and joined me with the second group. We headed out to Stableford and onto Ballinea. It was not very long before the rain rolled in and it was uncomfortable until we reached Killare. From here it was a nice spin to Streamstown. As we headed to Castletown the dreaded puncture gremlin struck and Tom was the unfortunate victim. So much for new tyres. Once repairs were completed we headed the back road and down to The Forge for a well earned coffee. Well done to Cathy - she served up 24 coffee's as quick as lightning. Look her up if you're passing through Castletown.

During the coffee break Maurice and Kieran had sponsorship cards for Mullingar Lions Club and from all accounts they were very grateful for the generosity of the D group. Some members decided to take a short cut and headed home on the Greenway. For the remainder of the group it was down the Lake Road and up to Dalystown. From here it was a steady pace back to town. A very credible 54km.

The one thought on everyone's mind was where was Mother Hen (Ulrika Maher). No need to worry, she had ventured to Dingle to check on Fungi. It's unfortunate nobody told her he was on a permanent holiday?.

Looking forward to seeing one and all on Wednesday evening.
