The Youths team were back in action again last weekend at the Leinster Track Cycling Championships. These races were held at the Sundrive track in Dublin’s Eamon Ceannt Park, Crumlin. This is a great facility and has undergone considerable refurbishment in recent years.

The Lakeside Wheelers team was once again on the podium with the O’Brien sisters, Aoife and Caoimhe, and Aaron Wade, coming away with a fine collection of six medals between them.

In the Under 12 competition Aoife rode a textbook race in both the Time Trial and the Scratch events claiming two gold medals for her efforts. Big sister Caoimhe went off in the Under 14’s and came home with a gold and silver medal in the same events. This fabulous performance was followed by Aaron Wade in the Under 16’s who also won gold and silver medals.

The success of the Lakeside Wheelers underage section this year has been nothing short of remarkable and, as these latest victories show, there is no shortage of appetite at this late stage in the season.

Thanks to Damien O’Brien for the report on these championships and hopefully there will be more young Wheelers attending track cycling in 2017.
