Bogman Two-Day

Post date: Sep 10, 2014 9:15:49 PM

Stage 2b on Sunday afternoon consisted of a 95km loop with 2 category 1 climbs at Maam Cross and Leenane. The weather was less than favourable with wind and heavy rain throughout the race. Stuart was unfortunate to puncture on the decent of Maam cross and even with a quick wheel change by our support crew he was unable to get back on.

It was an early start for stage 2a on Sunday morning with a pan flat(Not) 8km individual TT. All the Wheelers put in strong times with Stuart now our GC man posting a time of 11.50 which left him 10th overall going into the last stage.

We had a team of eight travel to Tullycross in Co. Galway to compete in the Bogman 2 Day. This was a handicapped stage race with Myself, Tosh Kiernan, David Fagan and guest rider Shane Quinn from Longford CC in the A3's and Peter Rimmer and Stuart Cox in the A1/A2 category.

The weather conditions for Stage 1 on Saturday afternoon was dry but there were strong winds to contend with. Stage 1 co

nsisted of 3 laps of a 31km lumpy circuit. The A3's got a 2 minute advantage on the chasing A1/A2's. Agresive riding by the A1/A2's seen all groups together inside the 20km mark. There were numerous attempted breakaways with Stuart Cox successful in getting into the winning break of 10 riders on lap 2. This break stayed away to the finish with Stuart getting 8th in the sprint. Strong riding by the remainder of the wheelers in the bunch secured 2nd place team on General Classification.

On Saturday Western Lakes CC also had an open race for A4's which was over 60km. We were represented here by Aidan Daly and Moss Keane. Both lads put in a strong performance with Moss unfortunate to puncture on the last lap, and Aidan Daly managing to get 7th in the bunch sprint.

The main bunch was split on the climb out of Leenane with Peter Rimmer staying in the thick of the action. On the run in to the finish a few riders broke clear to take the top placings with Peter finishing in the top end of the bunch. After a tough weekends racing we managed to get 3rd team overall, Peter was 4th A2 and Myself 5th A3.

Thanks to our support crew of Paul Daly and Roy Carey, who were ably assisted by Sharon Barrett and Ruairi Fagan. We couldn't have done it without you all. A special word of thanks must also go to Eddie Tyrell at Grange Motors for the supply of the support van.
