Just as the good weather took hold a week ago, several members saw the chance for some very scenic cycling with groups heading west to the Tour of Connemara and south to the Ring of Beara Challenge. Both sets of riders reported fantastic sunshine and equally fantastic cycling in what must be two of the most beautiful parts of Ireland.

Kilbeggan/Esker CC Sportive

Last Sunday a contingent of Wheelers travelled the short distance to Kilbeggan to participate in the maiden sportive organised by Esker Cycling Club. Yet again the sun shone and the crowds turned out. This was a very enjoyable 100km ride through Clara, Daingean, Edenderry and back via Kinnegad and Tyrellspass. This new club didn’t show any signs of inexperience as they had every box ticked for a great sportive, even the BBQ on the green was a lovely touch. Well done to all involved at Esker CC on a great day out but as I said, you learned from the best!
