On Thursday July 2nd the Buckley's Cycles Midlands Race League came to town - Dalystown that is. This year’s Midlands league races have been moved to a new circuit and are based out of Wallace’s pub in Dalystown. With two races scheduled and 58 riders signing on, a fantastic evenings racing was in store.

Once the first sun shower of the evening passed over and all riders re-appeared from their cars, vans and whatever shelter could be found.

First race off was the A/B race, 48km in total. Lakeside Wheelers were well represented in this race by Graham Morgan, Alan Whelan, Derek Sheeran, Joe Kenny, David Nolan, David Boyne, Keith Finn, Peter Rimmer and Paul Crowley. The B group had a 2 minute head start on the A group and despite holding a 41km/h average were caught by the A group on the start of the last lap.

Once the groups came together the racing really stepped up with various riders attacking in an effort to get away. The attack of the evening award has to go to David Nolan who blasted up the road with about 3km to go leaving the bunch in his wake, mesmerized by the gap he opened up. However David ran out of steam with about 500 meters to go and got swallowed up by the bunch. The race came down to a bunch sprint with LSW`s Keith Finn finishing 2nd, Derek Sheeran 8th, David Boyne 9th and Joe Kenny in 10th.

The C/D race started shortly after the A/B race for 2 laps of the circuit, 34km in total. Due to the number of marshals required Wendy Bates and Sean Kennedy were the only LSW representatives in this race. Racing was fast from the start with the C group quickly overhauling the D's. Seán Kennedy was unlucky to have to stop with a mechanical issue however Wendy kept the flag flying for Lakeside Wheelers, finishing comfortably in the bunch.

Thanks to all who marshaled and assisted on the evening.
