Cyclocross Update

A number of Lakeside Wheelers were in action in the Epic Cyclocross races on Sunday last 15th October. On a fast technical track with plenty of climbing and obstacles to negotiate this was and event not for the faint-hearted.

Asia Bula was our sole representative in the ladies race where she finished a in a fine 6th place. Asia had a tremendous season racing on the roads during 2017 where she finished 6th in the national women's league. She has now transferred to off road racing with huge enthusiasm and I have no doubt she will do equally well during the cyclocross season. John Boyne rode the B race and had a great ride to finish in a fine 8th place. This was an impressive result for the first year junior rider and it should stand him in good stead when the 2018 road race season gets under way next March.

We don’t have many Cyclocross racers in the club but over the past few years three members stood out when it came to this tough form of racing. Richie Lenihan, Peter Rimmer and Paul Crowley have represented the club with great distinction and the lads are back in the groove again this year with some fine performances over the past few weeks. On Sunday last they had to contend with a very big field but the lads show up very well again with Richie finishing in 17th and Peter not far behind in 30th.
