As I woke up this morning the rain was hammering down and the wind was was up. I went downstairs and started to get ready. Will we have a few early morning fallers due to the weather? A quick check of the BBC and the YR weather websites and they confirmed we would have very little rain and maybe some sun.

Eagerly we made our way to Batterstown for the Lucan Grand Prix. Getting out of the car the breeze was cold. After a quick warm up I made my way to the start line for the A4 race. I met my fellow Wheelers Aidian Daly, Niall Fagan, doing his second race, and Colm Yeates making his season debut. We were called to the car park and after watching the other groups start off, we got pelted by a hail shower for the first 2k out the road.

The sky then cleared for the remainder of the race with the sun even making an appearance. Once we turned for Dunshaughlin a beautiful wide road greeted us where the pace immediately hit over 50k. We then hit a number of roundabouts which took the pace back down again. This continued for the following two laps, breaks were made at various times but the peloton pulled them back. This meant a bunch sprint with the speed hitting 70k at one stage. Aidan Daly just missed out of a top 10 placing with the rest of us finishing in the bunch. A good days racing had by all and a great circuit. We will be back next year.
