Caoimhe O’Brien took another major step in her development as one of Ireland’s leading female cyclists last week in Dunboyne. Caoimhe out-sprinted Melanie Spath to win Round 6 of the Women’s Intermediate League. This win puts O’Brien into the League Leaders Jersey with just one race remaining. The race was hosted by Dunboyne CC and saw another large field of women for the popular league series.

It all came down to a mass bunch sprint after a late attack by Hannah Tilly was reeled in on the approach to the finish. From here the young 16 year old Lakeside Wheelers member launched her sprint effort which saw her take some big scalps and propel herself into the leaders jersey. Well done Caoimhe and best wishes for the finale.

Errigal

All roads lead to Churchill, Co. Donegal for the Errigal International Youth tour which takes place during the August Bank Holiday weekend. Lakeside Wheelers will have six riders participating. Aoife and Caoimhe O’Brien’s heroics during the past couple of seasons have been rewarded with national selections for this race so both girls will be members of the Irish team in their respective categories. This is a great honour for the girls and their family so congratulations to all the O’Brien family and enjoy Errigal.

Leo Gunning, Tommy Hogan and Conor N. Farrell will compete in the Boys Under 16 while Mikey Flaherty will compete in Boys Under14 race.
