Former Wheeler Aaron Wade success in France

Aaron Wade (former Lakeside Wheeler) took his biggest career win in France to-date, last Sunday when he was best in the final sprint to the line that settled the honours in GP Christian Fenioux-Souvenir Gilles-Malard. Wade who now cycles with Team U Cube 17, a French professional outfit, got a great lead-out from his team on the testing finish, with the riders sweeping downhill just before the prolonged drag up to the line. Once the Irish rider’s last lead-out man was done, Wade (20) took charge on the front with a very impressive finishing kick to secure victory.

National Championships

The National Masters Cycling Champs for 60's ; 50's ; 40's ; Ladies and A3's were held in Knockaderry, Limerick on 07.08.22 Lakeside Wheelers were well represented in all but the Ladies race and had some 'back up crew' on hand. Results were mixed but, alas, no podium finishes. Some are nursing a few bumps and bruises and repairing some damaged bikes but all hope to try again next year. Well done lads.

C-Group

A large bunch of C riders, 15 in all, enjoyed continental like conditions on their spin this week. Exiting the barracks we took the link road south. Crossing Joe Dolan we joined the N52 at Lynn and headed for Tyrrellspass. At Dalystown we turned left onto Castlelost road and into Rochfortbridge. From there we headed south past Derrygreenagh into Rhode and onto Mount Lucas. This was a bumpy part of the spin where Paris-Roubaix like cobble conditions were mirrored by the bog road. Back on terra-firma in Mount Lucas we headed for Daingean and on northwards to Tyrrellspass for a delightful tea / coffee and scone in the Castle. From there it was a straight forward run north on the N52 back to base – where some parched members of the peloton enjoyed a lovely 99. Well done all a nice 74 kms on the clock at a good steady lick.
